You can taste several local flavors and choose from a variety of fresh fish in the island’s tavernas and restaurants.
Local specialties: Fresh pasta (balothia), cheese bread with saffron (saffron bread), honeyed dough strips dredged with sesame seeds or coconut (xerotigana), sesame seeds mixed with honey and cinnamon (sesame honey), sweet cheese pies made with local eggs and myzithra cheese (Melitera), fine dough crescent rolls with sesame seeds, walnuts and honey (yemista) and pure Anafi’s honey mixed with blanched almond (koufeto).
Anafi’s local products may be few but they are pure and tasty and can be found in Anafi’s stores. Thyme honey of intense aroma and color, high quality olive oil, olive cheese and wine are locally produced in the island. Don’t forget to taste the island herbs of great quality, such as thyme, oregano, sage, «throumbi» (a thyme variety), saffron and other greens that can also be pickled i.e. caper leaves, piney chicory and crithmum.
